Fat Heads Rescue is a non-profit volunteer dog rescue organization serving the Southern Indiana area. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome pit bull type dogs with responsible, educated owners. It is our obligation and desire to rescue, rehabilitate, and adopt out pit bull type dogs in a manner which supports a positive image of pit bulls. We strive for both our dogs and their adoptive owners to serve as ambassadors for the pit bull type breed. To that end, it is our goal to provide all dogs in our foster care with balanced training, with the goal of as many of them as possible becoming prepared for certification as Canine Good Citizens in our care or with their new owners. We strive to educate all adopters about proper balanced training, and encourage them to continue engaging in such training post-adoption.

Canine Good Citizen training and testing.
We want the dogs in our program and dogs adopted from our program to be/become AKC certified Canine Good Citizens.
For this program we need trainers, tools, information/education for fosters, and testing fees.
This program will help us put breed ambassadors into our community and help ensure a positive pit bull image. Well trained and behaved dogs should set the norm for FHR dogs and all community dogs.

Meet Walter "Rocky" Rockafeller!
Rocky came to us when a litter of pups was surrendered to a rural shelter by a back yard breeder. Rocky's legs were swollen and he seemed small and underdeveloped. Lots and lots of testing have led us to a birth defect that resulted in Lymphedema . This is a chronic illness that is manageable. He requires daily medication and monthly blood work, but this boy is so sweet and is living a happy life with his foster mom! He is adoptable to the perfect home that understands Rocky's needs and financial liability.

Funding Needs
Donations primarily cover vetting and supplies for incoming and in program dogs.
Our next step in improving the lives of our adoptable dogs and their potential owners is to construct a training field and agility course that will be used for FHR adoptables and alumni. The agility course will help burn energy and build confidence. The training field will be used to create SOLID training foundations and move us toward our goal of Certified Canine Good Citezens.
