Fort Wayne Trails acts as a community partner and advocate in the development of a connected, multi-purpose system of trails in Allen County. Trail development is a process that involves municipalities, other government entities, citizen advocates and organizations like Fort Wayne Trails who work to ensure a public-private partnership in building trails. Fort Wayne Trails plays a large role in working as an advocate and fundraising partner to accomplish great things.

In November, 2017, the 100th mile of public, multi-use trail was installed in the Fort Wayne and Allen County trail network. This is an extraordinary accomplishment by the City of Fort Wayne, Allen County, New Haven, and all communities in our county with the assistance of many grassroots volunteers and donors. Fort Wayne Trails is proud to have been able to assist in this milestone and invites the public to participate in a fundraising campaign to honor Mile 100.The campaign is sponsored by PNC Bank with a goal to raise $100,000 for more trail development activities throughout our community.

We've already raised over $70,000, and have a goal of reaching $100,000, and hope that our Brackets for Good competition will help us close that gap. Those who donate $100 or more will be permanently recognized on a new display that will be installed at the Towpath Trailhead, located on Engle Road. Anyone giving $500 or more, will be highlighted at the top of the sign, in larger font. All donors are also listed on our webpage.

Our main program focus is to take a planned line on a map and bring people together to turn it into an active trail. This collaborative process and improvement to quality of life in our community, helps to retain and attract talent to the region as well as create an alternative transportation network so desired with a growing urban center. We do this through being an advocate and fundraising partner as well as project manager throughout Allen County.

In 2018, our trail development partners include the City of Fort Wayne, City of New Haven, Allen County, Leo-Cedarville, Grabill, Monroeville, Huntertown and the Allen County Parks. We are actively working on trail development projects with these entities to put more trail on the ground that is interconnected to our communities and great destinations.

This Brackets for Good competition helps create unrestricted dollars that can help our organization do our job, and also reach our $100,000 goal to celebrate 100 Miles of Trail!

Local Trail user Vincent Serrani and daughter, Francesca, love the new Six-Mile Creek Trail, “We love to use the trails for bike riding and running and walking and for active transportation to and from work and the grocery store and all over town.”

Fort Wayne Trails was able to donate $100,000 for the Six-Mile Creek Trail Project, through generous giving by people throughout our community. The trail helps to connect the city's south side to the Rivergreenway trails, and will someday connect to New Haven as well.

In 2017 over 560,000 people used our community's trail system, and we anticipate continued growth in the years ahead as projects like the Six-Mile Creek Trail, The Pokabache Connector, and other projects are completed.
